Following the subtle threads that connect art, history, and ownership
With more than a decade of experience in the arts, Megan Becker brings a unique combination of investigative research, hands-on object expertise, and compassionate client service to every appraisal assignment.
Prior to founding Red Thread Art Appraisal, Megan spent over eight years as an Art Restoration Specialist and Department Manager, working extensively in disaster recovery and restoration. Through the restoration of artworks, antiques, heirlooms, religious artifacts, sculptures, and personal collections affected by fire, water, and environmental damage, she gained an intimate understanding of the profound connections people form with the objects that tell their stories.
This experience provided a rare perspective into both the physical and emotional value of personal property. Working directly with families, collectors, and institutions, Megan witnessed how treasured objects become woven into family histories, cultural traditions, and personal identities. These experiences continue to inform her appraisal practice today.
As a restoration specialist, Megan developed a trained eye for condition assessment, previous restoration work, material identification, and fine details that are often overlooked. Her extensive experience preparing condition reports and evaluating damaged property naturally led to a specialization in damage and loss appraisal assignments, where technical object knowledge and accurate documentation are essential.
As an appraiser, Megan approaches each assignment with curiosity, diligence, and a commitment to uncovering the facts. She works as a generalist, welcoming inquiries across a wide range of fine art, antiques, decorative arts, collectibles, heirlooms, and personal property. Whether researching provenance, tracing ownership history, identifying makers, or determining value, she is driven by a passion for discovery and a belief that every object has a story worth understanding.
The name Red Thread Art Appraisal reflects this philosophy. Much like following a thread through a tapestry, Megan traces the connections between objects, people, history, and value through meticulous research and investigative analysis. Her work is guided by scholarship, integrity, and compassion, helping clients better understand the significance and history of the objects entrusted to her care.
When not conducting appraisal research, Megan can often be found pursuing her lifelong fascination with art history and creating plein air watercolor paintings along the trails and natural landscapes of New Jersey.
